Signs and Symptoms of an Eating Disorder

  • Refusal to Maintain Body Weight At or Above Minimally Normal Weight for Age and Height
  • Intense Fear of Gaining Weight
  • Denial of Seriousness of Current Low Body Weight
  • Shape and Body Weight Have a Significant Influence on Self-Esteem
  • Amenorrhea (Absence of Consecutive Menstrual Cycles)
  • Restricting Food Intake
  • Binging (A Sense of Lack of Control over Eating and Eating In a Discrete Period of Time a Large Portion of Food)
  • Purging (e.g.: Using Laxatives, Diuretics, Enemas, Or Self-Induced Vomiting)
  • Over Exercising
