Supporting Immigrant and Undocumented Community Members
Information about Supporting Immigrant and Undocumented Community Members
Under the U.S. Constitution, the California Constitution, California Values Act (Senate Bill 54), the Sanctuary Law of Humboldt County, the Sanctuary Proclamation of the City of Arcata, and the Policies to Assist California's Colleges and Universities in Responding to Immigration Issues issued by the California Department of Justice:
Cal Poly Humboldt is committed to advocating for Immigrants' Rights and protecting the information of its community members. This includes safeguarding them from any form of violence or discrimination, preventing unlawful participation of individuals or local government and CPH representatives in immigration enforcement activities, and prohibiting collaboration with agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
If you see federal immigration officers on campus, notify AVP and Chief Human Resources Officer Anthony Casas at (707) 826-5177.
As part of the California State University (CSU) system, Cal Poly Humboldt upholds the rights of all students, regardless of their immigration status, by:
- Preserving the confidentiality of student information.
- Responding appropriately to requests from Immigration Law Enforcement Agents seeking access.
- Addressing immigration-related actions within the outlined legal framework, ensuring the dignity and safety of students, their families, and the broader community.
You can access these Frequently Asked Questions compiled by the Chancellor’s office for more information about how CSU employees will respond to federal immigration officers on campus. See also CSU’s Resources for Undocumented Students here. The California State University Immigration Legal Services Project provides free immigration legal services to all current students, staff (state and auxiliary), faculty, immediate family members of current students, recent graduates (who graduated within two years), and newly admitted students who have accepted their admissions. Access immigration legal help through CHIRLA here.
At Cal Poly Humboldt, Scholars Without Borders addresses the pressing community issue of social invisibility, wherein individuals and communities face systematic marginalization, leading to barriers in accessing educational, financial, and community support systems. Our purpose is to provide academic, cultural, social, political, economic, and environmental support to students and to improve the internal capacity at Humboldt to serve students who are from working-class, first-generation, and marginalized communities.
